Tarzan was taken aback by the sight of the terrible winged lizard .....

A new piece for the upcoming "Golden Age of Comics and Animation" show at Brave New Worlds Comics first Friday July 3rd. Really had no idea what I wanted to do for this, I was seeing a lot of Popeye , Betty Boop at first I was thinking Batman, Captain America, or Robin, but I knew there would be a few of those also, and a lot of that sorta thing coming in so I didnt know where I was gonna fit in for this show so I went to the library and looked through some history of comics books, and there it was classics like Tarzan, and Prince Valient. I knew it had to be Tarzan. This went through a few stages of drawings, and gave me a hard time from the start. Originally he was going to be either fighting some sort of ape or sabre toothed cat. I collected about 75 pieces of reference for this, and had a crash course in Pterosaur anatomy, I used pictures of my self for the Tarzan pose, (with a lot of added muscle) i included a few in this post, i channeled the ghosts of James Allen St John, and NC Wyeth 2 Tarzan pros, and thumbed through many a Frank Frazetta book. and everything started falling together, I had the idea of a Lion Helm for a while but never had anything to incorporate it into before, also because I didnt know which direction to go Tarzan's hair, also to show he had been victorious in previous battles with beasts before. I wanted to try a different lighting situation also where the light would be coming from a golden sky behind. This will be the last Autumn Society Show for I while so Ill be busy doing some more personal works for a show in September.
